CEBU, Philippines — Over 150 participants embarked in the relaunch of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo as it takes on the Southern Heritage Trail.

Suroy-Suroy Sugbo is a pet project of Governor Gwen Garcia during her past administration.  Vice Governor Hilario Davide III, who was then governor for two terms, stopped this project during his tenure.

This year’s tourism caravan, according to Garcia, has gone back to its roots where no town gets left behind.

“I know with this sense of unity is the sense of hope in better things to come for Cebu,” Garcia said.

It was the utmost goal of the organizers to include every local government unit so as to fairly provide tourism and commercial exposure.

“In the past nine years that we launched it, that was when our towns became very well-known not just as tourist destinations but investment destinations as well,” Garcia said.

The caravan formally opened in the town of Minglanilla. Among the other towns included in the first day itinerary were San Fernando, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Alcoy and Boljoon.

Participants indulged in each of the town’s specialty dishes and pastries as they witnessed performances of festival dances and traditional folk songs.

Garcia added that it came as a pleasant surprise to her how the cities and municipalities seemed to pick up where they last left off from her previous administration.

“I am just thankful nga wala mo-degenerate, wala mokanaog ug wala kalimti ang atong standard of excellence that we have established when I was governor then,” she said.

Suroy-Suroy Sugbo is among the many benchmark programs of Garcia’s previous administration that have been relaunched.

Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, Guv’s Cup, and Governor Airsoft Championships have already been relaunched since Garcia reclaimed the top executive spot in the province.

Garcia also disclosed that she is looking forward to reviving Obra Negosyo Eskwela and eGWEN. GAN (FREEMAN)
