Firm starts diversion road study

CEBU, Philippines — A private engineering consultant has conducted a feasibility study for a diversion road from Barangay Guadalupe to Lahug, Cebu City for the project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that is estimated to cost P2.4 billion.

This diversion road is expected to decongest the traffic along Escario Street.

In the proposed diversion road in which the CEDGO Engineers are conducting a feasibility study on, two bridges and an underpass intersection are to be constructed.

It will connect Guadalupe Barangay Hall to Capitol Site and will pass through the rivers of Guadalupe and Lahug.  The exit points would be beside the Lahug Elementary School.

It would be a four lane access roads, each lane with an average of three meter and one lane for sidewalk for both sides. The length is expected to be 2,327 meters.

Councilor Jerry Guardo, the chairman of the City Council’s committee on infrastructure, said that there were three options proposed: The green, red, and blue alignment.

“The green alignment was recommended because the cost is the most viable and cheaper. The expected cost of the project is P2.4 billion,” Guardo said.

The detailed engineering is to be completed this December which will consist of the infrastructure design, the precise budget needed, and how many households and trees will be affected by the road widening.

“At least this will help ease decongest the traffic along M. Velez and Escario Street. That’s the reason we have this alternative road,” said Guardo.

This project will be undertaken by DPWH and when the detailed engineering will be completed it will then be endorsed to the national government for funding.

Target construction when approved will be in 2021.  GAN (FREEMAN)
