Barandog chosen as peace adviser

Alicia Chua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Mayor Edgardo Labella has appointed former Cebu City Mobile Force Company (CCMFC) commander Police Major Chuck Barandog as peace adviser.

“He has a track record, especially when it comes to the fight against illegal drugs.  Because we have to be relentless when it comes to the fight against illegal drugs,” said Labella.

The president has recently designated Labella as the chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Central Visayas.

“Being the regional (head), when I was appointed by the president to head the regional peace and order council, I have to look at other areas of jurisdiction, and part of this is Negros Oriental,” said Labella.

He added there is a prevalent perception of insurgence in Negros Oriental and, with Barandog’s experience and training, it was just logical to appoint him for the position since he is familiar with the concerns.

During the height of the elections, Barandog was swarmed with controversies.

“There were many accusations and insinuations but these are purely allegations it wasn’t proven in court,” said Labella.

Labella also mentioned that it was during election period that accusations can just be made by anyone against anyone.

What is important is to operate under presumption and that Barandog is doing a good job fighting against criminality, Labella said.  GAN (FREEMAN)
