Garcia: Clear falls of illegal structures

Lorraine L. Ecarma - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Operators of the Kawasan Falls were given a 30-day ultimatum to clear the falls of structures that violated the 20-meter easement zones.

Sugbo TV, the official public information network of The Province of Cebu, has reported that Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia met with Kawasan Falls operators last October 30 to discuss the presence of different structures that are in the supposed easement zone.

With this, Garcia imposed a deadline on the operators to clear the falls of these structures.

The ultimatum started on October 30 and will subsequently end on November 30.

Failure to comply with the ultimatum will mean a P10,000 to P200,000 fine per day.

Garcia has also warned that the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) to get involved in the demolition of these structures.

Among the other violations from various operators are the lack of building permits, mayor's permit, discharge permit and violations on the Environmental Compliance Certificate issued by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

Operators, according to Sugbo TV, have agreed to heed to the governor's orders.  GAN (FREEMAN)
