CEBU, Philippines — Officials of the Police Regional Office-7 and the Cebu City Police Office welcomed the lifestyle check sought for police personnel in the wake of allegations of corruption at the law enforcement agency.

Yesterday, PRO-7 director Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas revealed his estimated assets during the press conference.

“Siguro sa akoa ata is naa sa mga 11 to 12 (million).”

CCPO director Police Colonel Gemma Vinluan, for her part, said her estimated assets reached P9 million, emphasizing that her husband is working in the United Nations.

“You can have my assets and liabilities check if you want. How I wish ma satisfied kayo sa aking assets.” Vinluan said.

Sinas said the lifestyle check has been a long directive and that some police units are practicing it.

However, with the huge number of police personnel, Sinas stated that policemen who were under monitoring were prioritized in the lifestyle check.

Moreover, Sinas said the problem with the lifestyle check lies in the presentation of documents.

“For example, gi-estorya didto nga kanang balay is sa iyaha, wala man dokumento nga naa sa iyaha, so you cannot charge it sa iyaha.” Sinas explained.

He said he will be talking to the Regional Internal Affairs and Services Regional Director Police Brigadier General Francisco Esguerra on the implementation of the lifestyle check.

“Kung unsa lang ang kinahanglan i-check kato lang gyud.” Sinas added.

According to Sinas, lifestyle checking needs thorough details to ensure that the complaints are legitimate.

“Kasi luoy pud kaayo tung mga police ug ipataka lang nimo ug charge,” he added.  LPM (FREEMAN)
