Chan dismayed over Ombuds raps

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan was dismayed after majority of the barangay captains have filed a complaint against him before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas.

"Nasagmuyo gyud ko. Wala ko magto-o nga mahitabo ni. Ihiklin nato ang politika kay humana ang eleksyon. Focus na sa atong gipanumpaan nga trabaho," the mayor said during the press conference.

To recall, majority of the barangay captains in Lapu-Lapu City, who were allies of defeated mayoralty candidate Arturo "Boy" Radaza, filed a complaint against Chan.

City Councilor Eddie Cuizon,  who is the president of Association of Barangay Council in the city and the barangay captain of Bankal, said 28 of 30 barangay captains in the city have filed the complaint against the mayor  for grave coercion, grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming , grave abuse of authority, oppression and violation of section 3 (e) of Republic Act 3019.

But Chan said that, of the 28, three have not affixed their signatures on the complaint sheet while some of those who fixed their signatures were only forced to do so.

The three village chiefs who failed to sign are Romulo Wagwag of Barangay Baring, Efren Apa of Barangay Apa and Lucresia Amores of Barangay Marigondon.

"Dili lang ko mosulti kinsa sa mga kapitan ang nisulti nga napugos ra sila og pirma," said Chan.

Chan said that prior to the filing of the complaint, he even had a dialogue with the barangay captains asking their individual concerns on their barangays.

But Chan assured them of his continued support, despite the filing of the complaint against him.

The mayor said the city have so much problems to attend to like traffic, flooding, housing, hospital, other than minding the Radaza congressional office which is the subject of the complaint.

"Kagamay ra gyud anang problemaha. The city has so much problems to attend to. Move on na ta. Dili na ta magsigi og pamolitika. Magtinabangay na ta unsay makaayo alang sa mga Oponganons," Chan added.

He further said that his legal team is ready to answer the complaint. — GAN (FREEMAN)
