From all over the region: GCTA surrenderers now 20

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — In response to the president’s order for the convicts released under Good Conduct Time Allowance Law to surrender within 15 days, a total of 20 convicts have surrendered to authorities as of Wednesday morning.

According to Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, director of the Police Regional Office-7, the PNP has been spending for the meals of the convicts who were now turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

“Giistorya na nako tanan na mga PDs (provincial directors) and chiefs of police nga dad-on na sa CIDG para dad-on na sila didto sa Leyte,” Sinas said during a press conference Wednesday morning.

Sinas said that they have now received guidance after the allotted budget for the transportation and meals of the surrenderers was publicly announced by the president, directing the Department of the Interior and Local Government to spend for the expenses.

“More or less mag-issue na si DILG director sa PNP…kami amo lang i-facilitate, amo lang i-transfer ug karon amo ng gisuportaan ug pagkaon,” Sinas said.

The 20 who have already surrendered come from all over Region 7.

Sinas has already ordered Police Colonel Lito Patay, head of the CIDG-7, to start the process of transporting the surrenderers to Leyte, which has the nearest Bureau of Corrections facility.

Sinas also clarified that they still have not received the official list of the convicts released under GCTA Law who are now in Cebu.  (FREEMAN)
