4 nabbed, P9 million shabu seized in buy-bust op
CEBU, Philippines — A high-value target and his two siblings and brother-in-law were arrested in yesterday’s buy-bust operation in Cebu City, resulting in the seizure of P9 million worth of shabu.
The suspects were identified as Benerando Gemperoso, 27, his siblings, Joven Avistado Gemperoso, 29, and Beverlyn Gemperoso Medina,26, and Beverly’s husband, Regie Logico Medina,29. They were arrested inside their house in Sitio Biking, Barangay Mambaling.
Benerando, a high-value target, was the primary subject of the buy-bust operation.
Seized from them were packs of shabu weighing 1.35 kilos, said Police Colonel Gemma Vinluan, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) chief.
Vinluan said Benerando is not an ordinary supplier based on the volume of confiscated drugs.
“The drugs were packed per 25 grams,” she said.
She said the volume of seized drugs in the city “is no longer a joke.”
“This really saddens me,” she said.
Vinluan said CCPO will not stop until last supply of shabu is seized.
The four suspects are currently detained at the Punta Princesa Police Station pending the filing of charges against them for violating Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Act of 2002
Aside from intensifying crackdown on illegal drugs, Vinluan said police need active community involvement.
She urged the public to report to authorities those involved in illegal drug trade and other crimes.
Based on the consolidated report of CCPO, drugs worth P83 million, including the P9 million, were confiscated in 44 days of buy-bust operations.
On August 18, Julie Ann Villegas,21, was arrested for possessing 50 grams of shabu worth P340,000 in Barangay Hipodromo.
Last Thursday, at least 1.3 million worth of drugs were also recovered from 24-year-old high-value target in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Pasil.
Police also seized P8.1 million worth of shabu from a suspected high-value target in Barangay Kalunasan on August 13. — KQD (FREEMAN)
