12 thousand people benefit LTO’s e-mobile patrol

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Electronic Mobile Patrol Service of the Land Transportation Office-7 has served 12,000 clients within six months after its launching.

LTO-7 regional director Victor Caindec said 36 municipalities and cities in Central Visayas are being served by the system.

The E-Mobile Patrol Service provides services like issuance of student permit, renewal of license, renewal of motor vehicle registration, and printing of driver’s license.

Caindec said that the People’s Malasakit Lounge located at the LTO-7 regional office along Natalio Bacalso Avenue is also scheduled to open this week to serve the clients.

The lounge will feature a mini daycare and nursing corner which will cater clients who are bringing along their kids. The air-conditioned lounge will also have free wifi, charging stations, and free coffee. A coffee shop is also available for those who want expensive drinks.

“Kining tanan para gyud ni sa atong mga clients to show our genuine care for them,” Caindec said during the Kapihan sa PIA yesterday.

Caindec also announced that there are 370 police personnel given deputation by the LTO-7.

He said the deputized police personnel can help them enforce the land transportation laws. Caindec explained that deputized personnel are authorized to apprehend motor vehicles and drivers caught violating traffic rules.

Caindec said that confiscation of licenses can be done only upon proper issuance of the corresponding Temporary Operator’s Permit substituting the authority to drive in lieu of the confiscated driver’s license and giving the accosted driver 72 hours of “temporary authority” from time of apprehension.

Caindec advised the public that outright confiscation of driver’s license is illegal without proper authority by LTO and that impounding of vehicles can only be done by LTO-deputized personnel upon the issuance of a corresponding Motor Vehicle Impounding Receipt. — FPL (FREEMAN)
