Talisay to deliver cash aid to PWDs’ homes
CEBU, Philippines — Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Talisay City will no longer have to go to the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) to get their financial assistance.
For PWDs’ convenience, Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. said the cash aid will be delivered to their houses.
The mayor made the statement after witnessing Thelma Moneva, 40, who was carried by her brother to CSWD to claim the cash assistance. Moneva is physically handicapped.
Gullas personally visited Moneva at her home to check on her situation. He also donated a wheelchair to Moneva.
A teary-eyed Moneva thanked Gullas for the help.
Talisay City has 2,000 accredited PWDs. Each PWD receives an annual cash aid of P3,000 from the city government.
Last month, the city’s PWD sector asked the city government to increase the financial assistance to P6,000.
The sector made the appeal during the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, a celebration held every third week of July pursuant to Proclamation 361.
The week culminates every July 23, or the birth date of Philippine hero known as “The Sublime Paralytic,” Apolinario Mabini. — KQD (FREEMAN)
