CEBU, Philippines — At least 1,000 traffic violators have been apprehended by the City of Talisay- Traffic Operation Development Authority (CT-TODA) since it launched an intensified campaign against erring drivers early this month.

CT-TODA chief Rogelio Villaver said the traffic violators were issued citation tickets and have seven days to pay the P500 fine otherwise they would be facing charges in court. Villaver said the intensified enforcement of the traffic laws in Talisay has helped generate revenue for the city government.

More than the revenue, however, Villaver said they want to instill discipline and road safety to all motorists.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas earlier named Jonahan “Tumulak as the city’s traffic czar to help solve the traffic problem within its jurisdiction. The young mayor has given priority the worsening traffic situation in the city since day one of his administration.

The city government has particularly intensified the implementation of the “no helmet, no driving” policy. (FREEMAN)
