CEBU, Philippines — After more than a year of leading the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), Police Colonel Manuel Abrugena will be reassigned to the National Capital Region (NCR).

He will be replaced by Police Colonel Roderick Mariano.

Abrugena, in a press briefing yesterday, told reporters that his experience as a first-time director was challenging.

He cited illegal drug problems and scalawag cops as the two most challenging problems he had to address when he assumed as the chief of CPPO.

“Challenging ang aking stay, but I do hope na ang stay ko ay naging makabuluhan sa buong mga Cebuanos,” he said.

Abrugena is proud of his performance in the fight against illegal drugs as he has seized millions worth of shabu and arrested major drug players.

Previously, President Rodrigo Duterte tagged Cebu as one of the areas with very serious drug problems.

Abrugena said if he had more time as director, he will continue to intensify operations in combatting illegal drugs and filing cases against erring cops.

Abrugene is thankful for the opportunity to serve Cebu and he is prepared to accept more challenging roles.

Abrugena was previously assigned in the Philippine National Police headquarters for administrative duties before he assumed as head of CPPO replacing former Director Edgar Allan Okubo. (FREEMAN)
