Man dead, wife critical as motorcycle hits multicab

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A man was killed while his wife was severely injured after their motorcycle crashed into a multicab in Sitio Nasipit, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City, past midnight the other day.

Roland Heyrana, 49, and his wife Marybeth Heyrana, 42, both residents of Barangay Tawason, Mandaue City, had just come from a Father’s Day celebration and family gathering in Baliwagan, Balamban, and were on their way home when the motorcycle they were riding crashed into the Suzuki pick-up multicab driven by Alex Alegarbes.

Based on the initial investigation led by Police Corporal Marcon Magnanao, the accident happened at a curved portion of the road in Nasipit. The couple was heading towards Talamban proper, Cebu City, while the multicab was heading towards Cebu City.

Roland was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries in different parts of his body. His wife and Alegarbes were also severely injured.

Cebu City paramedics brought the couple and Alegarbes to the Cebu North General Hospital where a doctor declared Roland dead on arrival. His wife and Alegarbes are still confined in the hospital.

Alegarbes is set to face charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to property if the family of the fatality will choose not settle the case amicably. — Diane Liezel A. Ganar CNU Comm intern/BRP (FREEMAN)
