Andales: All 80 barangays to receive vehicles from city government

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — All the barangays in Cebu City will receive vehicles from the city government regardless of their political affiliation, according to City Councilor Sisinio Andales.

Andales was the author of 38 resolutions in the past two weeks for the donation of the vehicles to the barangays that are allied with the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK).

Andales said it was the directive of the outgoing City Mayor Tomas Osmeña to process all donations before his term ends this month.

Andales said Osmeña wanted to donate the vehicles to all barangays so that they will not be affected in the change of administration.

The City Council already approved the resolutions of Andales authorizing the mayor to sign the deed of donation for 38 barangays.

These are Zapatera, Mabini, Talamban, Tejero, Malubog, Pahina Central, Paril, Pit-Os, Tinago, T. Padilla, Pulangbato, San Antonio, San Roque, Basak Pardo, Calamba, Guadalupe, Buhisan, Buot, Bulacao, Babag, Bonbon, Cogon Ramos, Carreta, Capitol Site, Camputhaw, Busay, Binaliw, Banilad, Apas, Agsungot, Day-as, Guba, Basak San Nicolas, Hipodromo, Lusaran, Kasambagan, Kalubihan, and Lahug.

“Ipanghatag nalang gyud ang mga sakyanan sa mga barangay. Kon unsay naa na nila, mao napod atong ihatag by way of deed of donation. Mao na ang ingon ni mayor,” Andales said. (We will give the vehicles to the barangays through deed of donation.  That’s the mayor’s order.)

He said the barangays will be the one to take care of the maintenance, repair, and fuel allocation of these vehicles once these are donated and accepted by them.

The opposition members of the City Council already expressed their surprise on the move of the outgoing administration of Osmeña considering that mayor-elect Edgardo Labella was vocal about his plans to donate vehicles to all barangays for them not to be affected by any change of administration.

Andales said the city recalled the vehicles before for inventory and repair, stressing that it will no longer happen as the barangay will take care of their vehicles.

Aside from giving vehicles to the barangays, the City Council also approved resolutions for the donation of 47 vehicles for Cebu City Police Office, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-7, and Bureau of Fire Protection-7. (FREEMAN)
