DPS to start citywide removal of campaign materials

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City’s Department of Public Services (DPS) is willing to remove the campaign materials of local bets which are still posted on various common posting areas in the city.

DPS officer-in-charge John Paul Gelasque said it is their responsibility to clean the city’s surroundings and the Cebu City Council does not need to pass a resolution on this.

Councilor Sisinio Andales recently sponsored a resolution asking the DPS to organize a cleanup operation to remove campaign posters.

“Actually, dili naman kinahanglan nila siguro mag resolution kay amoa naman nang responsibilidad kada election time nga right after the election, mag convene mi tibuok DPS kami maoy mangiskis,” he told The FREEMAN yesterday. (I think they don’t need to pass a resolution because every after election, DPS will convene for the clean-up and removal of campaign posters.)

Gelasque said his office has around 200 street cleaners who will help in the operation.

 In fact, they have already started their operation and they have removed 10 tons of campaign materials from the streets and various polling centers.

Gelasque said personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) were also seen removing campaign materials.

On Monday, Gelasque will meet with all his personnel for the cleanup operation citywide.

“Among gipang-una ang mga eskwelahan, unya katag-katag lagi kay wala pa na convene ang mga tawo. Mag meeting pa mi ana para sa citywide na gyud,” he said. (We have prioritized the schools.  We will convene for the citywide clean-up.)

However, he encouraged the candidates to help them remove campaign posters to hasten the clean-up operation.

“Sa mga nidaog, congrats. Sa mga napildi, congrats gihapon unya dapat ila sad nang kuhaon (campaign materials). Naa sila’y sense of responsibility ba nga sila may nagpapilit ana, sila’y motangtang,” Gelasque said.
