Cops show sense of community in Brigada Eskwela

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Central Visayas are participating in this year’s Brigada Eskwela by helping clean and doing carpentry work at the Abellana National School (ANS) in Cebu City.

Brigada Eskwela is a week-long activity of the Department of Education that brings together teachers, parents, and other members of the community to work together to prepare classrooms and other facilities of public schools for the opening of classes on June 3.

PRO-7 Director Debold Sinas said extending assistance to schools is part of the office’s adopt-a-school program.

“I have given a directive to all stations to focus on one school para efficient,” he said.

Sinas along with over 100 PRO-7 personnel, including his command group of policemen with ranks of colonel, trooped to ANS yesterday to help in repairing classrooms, fixing manholes, and disposing unused fixtures.

Also, he said PRO’s engineering unit will also assess the school fence to prevent burglars from climbing it.

Emelita Lanaria, the school principal, said a tall tree near the school gate was used by thieves to enter the school.

She thanked the cops and other stakeholders for continuously extending a helping hand. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
