Minor nabbed with P1.3 million drugs

Rowena D. Capistrano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A 17-year-old alleged member of a drug syndicate operating in Cebu City was arrested during a buy-bust operation Monday afternoon in Sitio Ponce 2, Barangay Carreta.

Joint operatives from the Special Operations Unit 5, Waterfront Police Station, Regional Special Operations Group-7, Regional Intelligence Division-7, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 caught the minor suspect allegedly in possession of two big packs of shabu worth P1,360,000.

The Freeman withheld the name of the suspect who is now under the custody of the Women and Children Protection Desk.

Police Major Joemar Pomarejos, Waterfront Police Station chief, said they received information about the illegal activities of the suspect, prompting them to validate the information.

Pomarejos said they found that the suspect works for a bigtime illegal drug group in the city. The police official, however, refused to provide additional information since it is subject of their follow up operation.

Police are preparing criminal complaints for violation of Section 5 Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act against the suspect. — FPL (FREEMAN)
