8 charged for sowing intrigue in chat group
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Prosecutor's Office has charged eight persons before the court for allegedly spreading rumors and intrigue against a woman through a chat group.
Roquelito de los Reyes, Albeth Maureen Carrido Little, Ron Lacanlale, John Paul Juson, Christopher Tanghal, Lyra Valles, Lloyd Johsiff Ompad, and Faye Reston Pacomo are facing a case in relation to Cybercrime Prevention Act.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by April Cande Dequito. She alleged that a chat group denominated as HBD Coaching was created with 22 members who are triathletes, including all the accused, who were trained by a certain Coach Sherwin.
Dequito alleged that in the chat group, there were remarks against her, calling her a warrant freak, a selfish, dumb and crazy woman, a psychopath and liar, a self-righteous fool.
Dequito said she was previously part of the HBD Coaching chat group but chose to leave due to personal differences with some other female members.
A certain Karl, a member of the chat group told her about the remarks, prompting her to file a case.
Prosecutor II Jennifer Karen Leyson found probable cause to indict the suspect before the court.
The suspects filed a partial motion for reconsideration but this was denied. (FREEMAN)
