Policeman shot dead

Rowena D. Capistrano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  A maritime policeman was shot dead outside his house in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City on Friday night.

Police Master Sergeant Joseph Villamor was standing outside his residence in Sitio Pueblo de Oro when two assailants on board a motorcycle fatally shot him.

Police are still investigating to determine and track his killers.

According to Senior Master Sergeant Joefrey Managase, desk officer of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Station 3, told The FREEMAN that the two men suddenly arrived in the area and the backrider fired at Villamor a number of times.

To ensure that Villamor was dead, the gunman reportedly continued firing at him while speeding off.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body, which resulted in his instantaneous death.

Managase said that authorities recovered five empty shells of caliber 9mm from the crime scene.

He added that the police are still facing a blank wall about his death and that investigations are still ongoing to determine the motive.

Villamor was assigned at the LCPO City Intelligence Branch in 2014-2015 and has since been transferred to the maritime police unit of PNP in Manila. He only came back in Lapu-Lapu City supposedly to attend a court hearing next week. — JMD (FREEMAN)
