Final testing, sealing of VCMs for Cebu set

Le Phyllis F. Antojado-Orillaneda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu will be conducting the final testing and sealing of the vote counting machines (VCM) on May 10, Friday.

The synchronized final testing and sealing will be held at the different schools in all towns and cities in the province to check the integrity of the counting machines.

Lawyer Ferdinand Gujilde, provincial election officer, said that during the final testing and sealing, there will also be a mock election activity wherein sample voting will be done by different people through 10 test ballots that will be shaded by random voters assigned in the specific precinct and will be fed to the VCM.

“Then the VCM will dispense the results but the result is going to be matched to the manual result of the ballot,” Gujilde said.

A total of 3,716 VCMs have arrived in Cebu last week. One VCM is assigned to each clustered precincts.

On top of this, there are 400 contingency machines for the upcoming polls intended to replace those machines that will not function.

On Election Day, there will be no extra ballots available as the number of official ballots is equal to the number of registered voters.

Gujilde said this means if voters will commit mistake in shading his ballot, there will be no replacement. — MBG (FREEMAN)
