Silawan Case cops want psych test, polygraph for slay suspect

Camille L. Pateres - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Investigators want Renato Llenes, the self-confessed suspect in the grisly murder of 16-year-old Christine Lee Silawan to undergo a psychiatric exam and polygraph test to support their case.

Police Regional Office-7 director Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas explained that the suspect needs to undergo psychiatric exam in a public hospital to check if he is in the right state of mind.

If the suspect's legal counsel permits, the PNP-Crime laboratory will conduct a polygraph test on Llenes to determine if he is telling the truth.

This is also to determine if Llenes lied when he said he committed the crime alone.

However, Sinas clarified that they will only be using this as a guide in their investigation.

"Ang karon among buhaton namo sa ilaha i-psych evaluation siya para siguro ang abogado kung maayo ang huna-huna after ana among plano kung musugot ang iyahang abogado among i-agi sa polygraph. Iyaha bang gistorya ug tinuod. Kay kung iyahang istorya tinuod nga siya lang, so siya lang (ang nagbuhat)," the general said.

Sinas added that as of now, there is a huge possibility that their case against Llenes will be consolidated with the one against the 17-year-old suspect arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation-7.

To recall, Llenes confessed to authorities and later on to the media that he was the one who killed Silawan and skinned and flayed her face. He also said he is the one behind the Facebook account of a certain “CJ Diaz” who courted and dated the victim online.

According to police authorities, the user of the account CJ Diaz made Silawan believe he was real and promised her to give her a brand-new cellphone and a teddy bear if she met up with him.

Llenes said that he decided to surrender himself because he was disturbed by his conscience.

Silawan was found dead in a vacant lot in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City last month. She was missing clothes in the lower part of her body and her skin and flesh had been peeled away from her skull. -  BRP (FREEMAN)
