Garcia: Don’t judge me based on cases
CEBU, Philippines — "Don't judge me," so said former Cebu governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who is running for the top post in the province, on the cases filed against her.
Garcia said that she still believes in the rule of law, over and beyond political persecution.
"Let it be before commenting but if you wish to comment, palihug get all the facts straight. The primary rule in the Bible baya kay judge not and you will not be judged," said Garcia during the Mega Cebu's Candidates Forum 2019 with her vice gubernatorial candidate Marie Daphne Salimbangon.
Garcia also said that PDP-Laban Party would have wanted her to run for senator this election.
But she said comfort, personal ease is nothing compared to when “we talk about what is good for Cebu and what Cebu needs right now.”
"Cebu has sunk to the level of a struggling province in terms of competitiveness, infrastructure and economy. Cebu needs help. So, rather than thinking of my political promotion career-wise, I would rather address what Cebu needs now," said the incumbent Representative of Cebu's Third District.
Garcia also said that "someone will be held accountable for the sorry state of the P850 million Cebu International Convention Center" that was sold by the Cebu province for P300 million to the Mandaue City government.
Governor Hilario Davide III, who also guested in the same forum but on a different timeslot, said that with the sorry state of the CICC, he is nevertheless happy that it was sold at P300 million.
"Happy ko nga nahalin pa og P300 million kay naa koy kaila gani niingon nga ipatimbang na lang nang mga puthaw sa CICC," Davide said.
The Garcia-Salimbangon tandem dubbed as "GaSa" also bared their platform of government from infrastructure, health, education, social services, among others.
If elected, both Garcia and Salimbangon said they will work hard in making Cebu number one again. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
