Bohol Fish Market and Tienda opened

CEBU, Philippines —  The Bohol Fish Market and TienDA was relaunched yesterday at the Bohol-Agricultural Promotion Center in Tagbilaran City.

The project, according to the Department of Agriculture, aims to promote locally-produced agri-fisheries products, provide market access, and bring down the prices of some basic commodities most especially on fishery products.

Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol graced the relaunching and led the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with Undersecretary for Fisheries and BFAR Director Commodore Eduardo Gongona, DA Regional Executive Director Salvador Diputado, and local officials of Bohol.

DA-BFAR first launched the Bohol Fish Market and TienDA last year to address the shortage and high prices of fish and other seafood commodities.

BFAR-7 Regional Director Alfeo Piloton, in a separate statement, assured the project’s continuity by making the fish Market and TienDA available every Friday and Saturday every week starting next week.

Piñol also turned over the agri-fisheries equipment and facilities intended to recipient local government units of Bohol.

He said that because some government projects are not sustainable and only good at the start, this is why that fishermen and cooperatives should be given enough support to sustain their livelihood.

Piñol also intended to bring this program to other places in Region 7.

Piñol further said he already signed the documents needed for the bidding of the construction of the Bohol Dairy Project with an initial 2,000 cows for this year, another 2,000 cows in 2020, and an additional 6,000 cows in 2022.

The three-year program of Bohol Dairy Project will be operated by the ACDI Coop along with AFI milk in Vietnam using Israeli technology in milk production.

Piñol hopes that within the next five years, Bohol will become a major dairy production area in the country with a daily milk production of 25 to 35 liters. — Rowena D. Capistrano, correspondent BRP (FREEMAN)
