PDP rally leaves 1 ton of garbage

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Public Services (DPS) has collected a ton of trash after the proclamation rally of the administration’s senatorial candidates at the Plaza Independencia last Sunday.

DPS officer-in-charge John Paul Gelasque told The FREEMAN that the street cleaners started clearing the event area yesterday morning.

“Buntag na kay naa man sila lain area of assignment (Sunday evening). At 8 a.m. (yesterday) sila nag-start,” he said.

He said it took one hour and a half for the 10 street cleaners to completely clean the area.

Most of the collected pieces of garbage were plastic bottles, disposable food packs and campaign materials.

“Gaan ra ang basura kay kargado ra og bottled water ug mga packed meals, light ra kaayo,” Gelasque said.

At least five street cleaners from Barangay Mabolo also helped the city in cleaning the area.

Mabolo Barangay Captain Prisca Niña Mabatid, who is affiliated with PDP-Laban, was among the officials present in the said proclamation rally.

Last Sunday, trashes were scattered just everywhere at the event venue, despite the trash bins and bags placed around the venue.

At around 12 noon, supporters of PDP-Laban started to flock the area.

During the event, no Barangay Environmental Officers were assigned in the venue since there was no request coming from the Parks and Playgrounds Commission for deployment.

The BEOs are the authorized officers to apprehend individuals violating the city’s anti-littering ordinance. (FREEMAN)
