CEBU, Philippines — The police will not disclose information relative to their investigation into the ambush that killed Association of Barangay Councils President Ricardo Reluya, Jr. and two others – at least while the investigation is ongoing.

Police Regional Office - 7 Director Debold Sinas said they will not release updates so as not to jeopardize the investigation and the case.

"Actually, we will hold the update of the investigation… it is ongoing… we have leads, nagkuha na affidavits, nagkuha na og mga whatever… gai lang mi panahon and you will see… lisod na kaayo magstorya kay basin mabulabog ang atong imbestigasyon. Huwat lang (Actually, we will hold the update of the investigation… it is ongoing… we have leads, affidavits, among others…give us some time and you will see… it might be difficult to keep on talking because it might jeopardize the investigation. Just wait)," Sinas said.

"We have been open kung naa mi updates. Karon lang, we will not say anything kay the investigation is ongoing. Gipakuha lang ang affidavit sa mga witnesses; gi-finalize para mapakusog ang kaso (We have been open on the updates. Just this time, we will not say anything because investigation is ongoing. We are getting affidavits from witnesses; we are finalizing them to strengthen the case)," he added.

Philippine National Police Director General Oscar Albayalde has given local police two weeks to investigate the ambush that also injured Reluya’s wife, San Fernando Mayor Lakambini Reluya.

Aside from the ABC president, Allan Bayot and Ricky Monterona, also died on the spot. The other survivors include Giovani Perez and Tolentin Jefer.

The six were on board Toyota Grandia while traversing Natalio Bacalso Avenue, in Talisay City on January 22 when assailants peppered their vehicle with bullets.

So far, the police are eyeing two persons of interest, and are eyeing politics as motive in the ambush. (FREEMAN)
