VSMMC has two new wards
CEBU, Philippines — The Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) can now serve more patients after the inauguration of its new pediatric facility at the Pediatric Pavilion and Ward 3B on Friday morning.
Medical Center Chief, Dr. Gerardo Aquino Jr. said VSMMC embarked on the said projects to address the increasing number of cancer cases.
“For an ordinary citizen, you know in private hospitals, di man g’yud na barato, so mo-ingon nalang nang uban, mamatay nalang,” Aquino said.
The rooms in Ward 3B are catered for special cases like heart, kidney transplants and the like. The pediatric facility is part of the Pediatric Pavilion in the third floor and will house a total of 44 new beds (22 cribs and 22 regular beds).
The pavilion also includes the Human Milk Bank, but its inauguration was scheduled for another day since Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Pia Cayetano, the project’s main proponent, could not make it.
While congestion and the lack of facilities are what most government hospitals face, VSMMC said they are still focusing on expanding and renovating for better medical experience.
According to VSMMC, their top commitment is to provide quality and accessible healthcare to the public especially to the indigent patients who do not have private health insurance and can’t afford hospitalization and treatment. — Moira Beatrice A. Zamora, USC intern, BRP (FREEMAN)
