E-jeeps in Lapu-Lapu City operational by February

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The electric jeeps or e-jeeps will be operational by February 8 this year in Lapu-Lapu City, according to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza.

The e-jeeps were supposed to start operating last December under the supervision of the United Drivers Operators and Transport Cooperative, however, not all their requirements had been completed.

It is expected that there will be 50 to 100 e-jeeps plying the streets of Lapu-Lapu City by next month.

Meanwhile, tricycle drivers expect that there will be delays in launching the electric tricycles or e-trikes also in Lapu-Lapu City.

The e-trikes were set to be deployed in the city streets earlier but this was pushed back by several reasons, one of which is the warning from the Department of Interior and Local Government that e-trikes should not travel along the national highways.

The said e-trikes will cater to the riding public in the different barangays. — Isabella G. Obor, USJ-R intern, BRP (FREEMAN)
