DOTr-LTO, PNP warns against fake websites

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Transportation-Land Transportation Office and the PNP-Cybercrime Division Group are warning the public to be wary of online fixers and scammers using fake LTO Facebook pages or accounts.

"Fixers and scammers are keeping up with technology. We have noticed the proliferation of fake LTO Facebook pages which have victimized a number of our clients. We ask our clients to patronize only legitimate LTO Facebook pages as we continue to operate against bogus FB accounts nationwide," said LTO chief Edgar Galvante in a statement.

Galvante said that their legitimate Facebook page is Land Transportation Office-Philippines (https://www.facebook.com/ltoofficialpacd/).

"We will be posting the list of official Facebook pages of the LTO regional and district offices. In the meantime, do not transact with illegal LTO accounts," Galvante said.

They likewise urged the public to report this matter saying that the more people report these fake LTO Facebook accounts the easier it will be for Facebook itself to take them down.

The group added that victims of these fake sites can file their complaints or ask for technical assistance with the PNP-ACG. — BRP (FREEMAN)
