Teenager's boyfriend now a person of interest

Camille L. Pateres - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The boyfriend of the 19-year-old girl, who allegedly died due to a drug overdose during a concert, is now considered a person of interest in the case, Police Regional Office-7 Chief Debold Sinas said.

In a media interview yesterday, Sinas said that they are looking at interviewing the boyfriend because the police believed that he was with the victim during the concert.

Mabolo Police Station Chief Dindo Juanito Alaras told The FREEMAN that a family member already reached out to them and finally filed a formal complaint.

The police are now building up a case in relation to the teenager’s death.

"As of now wala pa tay location sa boyfriend," he said.

Sinas said that they cannot determine yet if the drug was ecstasy because the findings of the victim's medical doctor were not specific.

"Accordingly based from the medical doctor, it's not even overdose from ecstacy.  Ang estorya overdose of a certain drug, yung ecstasy came in sa social media na," he said.

Because of this, they urged the family to have the victim undergo a post-mortem examination to specifically identify the type of drug the victim allegedly took.

Sinas has also tapped the expertise of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 to assist in the examination.

PDEA-7's spokesperson Leia Albiar-Alcantara told The FREEMAN that they are very much willing to coordinate with the police in the probe.

Sinas also said that if it can be proven that the victim died from ecstasy, they will be tracing the party drug suppliers in Cebu in their party drug watchlist whom the victim may have bought the drugs from.

Earlier, a viral post on social media said that the girl collapsed in the middle of the concert at the Cebu Business Park last January 19.  Netizens surmised that it was due to party drug overdose. — GAN (FREEMAN)
