City to install Sinulog bleachers
CEBU, Philippines — Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and mothers with children will be prioritized to sit on the bleachers, said City Councilor David Tumulak.
Tumulak, who also sits as chairman of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. Executive Committee, the mobile bleachers, which will be set up on Osmeña Boulevard corner R. R. Landon Street to Fuente Osmeña Circle, will be available on Saturday during the foot procession and on Sunday during the grand parade.
He said the revelers and devotees need to be early to utilize the mobile bleachers.
They are also reminded not to bring bladed weapons. Smoking and littering are also prohibited.
The 39th Sinulog Grand Parade will start at 9 a.m. after the 8 a.m. Holy Mass at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
The parade route covers Imus Road, General Maxilom Avenue, Fuente Osmeña, and Osmeña Boulevard. The ritual presentation will be at the CCSC.
Rain or shine, Tumulak said, the Sinulog Grand Parade will go on as scheduled.
Based on recent weather forecast, Metro Cebu is likely to experience rains in time for the Sinulog festivities this weekend.
A low pressure area may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday and may last until Sunday.
For this year, Tumulak said there are several changes for the parade.
He said there will be judges who will be moving around the grand parade route on top of the stationed judges.
The judges’ locations though will not be disclosed to ensure that contingent will continue performing all throughout the parade.
Also, the number of participating photographers is reduced from 1,000 to 200 to avoid delays.
The puppeteers, float and higantes will not be grouped during the parade, instead they will be segregated. Each dancing contingent will be followed by puppeteer, higantes and float, said Tumulak. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
