58 jail personnel pass drug test

CEBU, Philippines — All employees of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) tested negative in a surprise drug test conducted yesterday.

This is the first drug test conducted in the jail facility this year.

There were 58 employees who underwent the procedure conducted by the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) according to CPDRC Warden Reynaldo Valmoria.

The last drug test was conducted by the PNP Crime Laboratory in August 2018. Back then, none of the 112 employees tested positive.

With zero positive in the past two tests, Valmoria is pleased.

“I’m satisfied because I also keep on telling them not to get involved (with illegal drugs),” he said.

He added that CPDRC has no place for employees who use illegal drugs.

At present, the jail has a total of 156 employees who are divided into three shifts within a 24-hour span. This consists of administrative staff and jail guards.

Only 58 of the entire personnel of the jail were able to have their samples taken because the test was only conducted for the morning shift which is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He said that those who were not able to take the test yesterday will have their turn. The date will be determined by the CPADAO alone so it will come as a surprise to the subjects.

Aside from getting good results on drug testing its employees, Valmoria also remarked that the contrabands which are confiscated by the jail management are decreasing. — MBG (FREEMAN)
