CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) will start accepting applications for Sinulog vending tomorrow.

DWUP will set up desks in the lobby of City Hall’s legislative building to cater to an estimated of 4,000 applicants.

Applicants will be asked to submit valid identification cards (IDs) and to pay registration fee to the City Treasurer’s Office. The registration fee varies depending on the products the vendors will be selling.

Application and accreditation of vendors will run until January 12.

Alcoseba said applicants from Cebu who failed to register within the given schedule will no longer be accommodated.

But those from outside Cebu will still be catered though, she said.

“This is to make it fair and square for vendors not from Cebu,” she said.

But Alcoseba clarified that vendors from Cebu City will be prioritized.

Once approved and accredited, DWUP Operations Chief Genevieve Alcoseba said vendors are allowed to vend along the Sinulog route from January 18 to January 20.

Accredited vendors will be given IDs and will undergo orientation on certain rules and regulations.

This is part of the city’s efforts to regulate the vendors in a bid to make the celebration peaceful and orderly. The same initiative was done in last year’s Sinulog.

In 2018, the city accredited 3,000 vendors.

Alcoseba warned unaccredited vendors otherwise their merchandise will be confiscated by the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, and Enhancement (PROBE) team.

Around 400 staff from DWUP, Peace and Order Program (POP), and barangay volunteers, among others will be deployed during the Sinulog. (FREEMAN)
