Lacking paperworks P60 million infra projects in Cebu City shelved

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  At least P60 million worth of infrastructure projects will not be implemented in Cebu City within the year due to the absence of the necessary permits.

However, Assistant City Engineer Nilo Igot said majority of these projects will still be implemented next year upon the completion of the needed permits and clearances.

He said at least P50 million of the P60 million will have its bidding in January 2019 in anticipation of the submission of permits from different barangays where these projects will be implemented.

“Ilang mga permit like barangay clearance, dugay na-submit but pwede ma bidding next year with their permits na,” he said.

Some of the projects that will have the bidding next year are the P15 million construction of the cement concrete pavement in Barangay Kamputhaw; P7.58 million cement concrete pavement in Barangay Kamputhaw; P8.59 million cement concrete pavement in Barangay Bulacao; P3.33 million cement concrete pavement with drainage system in Barangay Lahug; P5.548 million slope protection and mitigating structure in Barangay Sinsin; P6.949 million cement concrete pavement in Barangay Guba; and P3.1 million stone masonry slope protection in Barangay Guba.

Igot said these projects will still be implemented after the bidding next year.

He said his office has yet to check the details of at least P10 million worth of infrastructure projects in several barangays if permits will be secured by then.

These projects include the P2.7 million concreting of barangay roads in Barangay Pasil; P2.88 million road concreting in Barangay Taptap; and P2.98 million concreting of roads in Barangay Sambag II.

Igot said the P3.5 million construction of concrete pavement in Barangay Pari-an will be cancelled because the Department of Public Works and Highway- Cebu City District has already bid out the project first.

Igot said this means the P3.5 million will be put to the savings account of the city’s Department of Engineering and Public Works since the national government has funded the project.

“District engineers office is mandated to finance all projects nato. Pwede mohatag og budget whether urban or mountain barangay. That is the function of the district office,” he said.

Igot said the city has to cancel the project to avoid duplication of projects with the national government.

He added that the office is thankful for the assistance that the national government has extended to the city since the budget may be used for other projects. — GAN (FREEMAN)
