CEBU, Philippines —  At least 15 houses and commercial buildings were gutted by fire that hit Barangay Poblacion 2, Carcar City, southern Cebu yesterday morning.

No injuries and fatalities were reported, but damage to property was pegged at P1 million.

Fire Officer 3 Reynald Redoblado, fire investigator, said the fire engulfed a residential area and portions of the market. Twelve houses, two commercial buildings, and an eatery were burned down.

He said most of the residential houses were made of light materials.

He said the fire started in the ground floor bedroom of the five-decade house of Mercedes Alinsogay.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, said Redoblado.

“We are not discounting the possibility that a faulty electrical wiring triggered the fire,” he said.

The fire department received the alarm at 9:21 a.m. Forty minutes later, it was raised to Task Force Alpha, with fire trucks from the neighboring cities and towns helping out to control it.

Authorities declared fire out at 11:30 a.m.  — KBQ (FREEMAN)
