Cebu City’s treasurer lauded
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Hall’s treasurer has been recognized for collecting taxes beyond target.
The Bureau of Local Government Finance of the Department of Finance (BLGF-DOF) recognized Veronica Morelos for her “invaluable contribution to the revenue generation program of the agency.
The citation on the plaque received by Morelos, signed by BGLF-7 Acting Director Mercy Santos, read that the efficiency rating of the Cebu City Treasurer’s Office under her helm in 2017 was 104.18 percent.
Morelos, in an interview with The FREEMAN, was thankful for the recognition, saying it gives honor to her and the city government.
But she also shared the accolade with her team.
“Of course, madasig ta. Kaming empleyado sa treasurer's office kay na-recognize man ang efforts. When I received the award, I told them this is your efforts kay kamo man ang tu-a sa field. Ako sila gi-congratulate," she said.
In 2017, Cebu City collected P1 billion in real property taxes and P1.8 billion in business taxes. — JMD (FREEMAN)
