CCTO earns P20 thousand from ‘Undas’ violations

Odessa O. Leyson - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Just by implementing the anti-double parking and no parking policy within the vicinity of the different cemeteries in the city during the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) earned P20,000.

CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano told The FREEMAN that there are four motorcycles impounded for illegal parking along the exit and entrance of the Calamba Public Cemetery and the Queen City Memorial Garden.

He said that aside from the confiscation of motorcycles, the owners will pay a fine amounting to P2,500, as provided by law.

The drivers are allowed to get their respective motorcycles on Monday, Ouano.

“Yes, atong gi-allow nga mo-park bisan asa basta dili lang mo-park diha sa vicinity entrance ug exit sa mga menteryo,” Ouano said.

Its record showed that traffic enforcers have also issued citation tickets to at least 10 vehicles that were caught violating the anti-double parking policy along the Cebu Memorial Park.

During the two–day holiday, they did not implement the clamping of any vehicles or motorcycle that were illegally parked.

“Tungod kay atoang gihatagan og higayon nga ang mga tawo makabisita sa menteryo,” he said.

In every cemetery, they have designated a parking lot so that these areas will be not congested with vehicles and motorcycles.

He added that they did not enforce the anti-counterflowing policy, since the traffic condition is manageable during those days.

But Ouano emphasized they have resumed the strict enforcement of all existing traffic laws starting yesterday and that they would no longer give considerations to violators.

Ouano said at least 318 traffic enforcers were assigned to various areas to man the traffic in the city.

Since October 31 until November 2, the traffic enforcers were not allowed to take their rest days, so they could help monitor and manage the traffic.

“So far, naa’y area nga mohuot kay mao lagi na, mo-double park sila.  Hinay ang unloading and loading maong nakamugna og traffic sa may Cempark. Ang ubang menteryo like sa Calamba, moderate ra siya, Carreta and Queen City,” Ouano said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
