CEBU, Philippines — The police have identified two of the four assailants involved in the ambush-slay of two jail guards and an inmate in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City last Sept. 13.

Police Senior Supt. Royina Garma, director of Cebu City Police Office, requested not to name the two until an arrest warrant is released against the killers.

Garma, in a press briefing, said that the inmate Jerryfer Perigrino was the main target of the ambush because of his illegal drug activities.

He was reportedly in conflict with a local drug lord who is the boss of the hit men.

The two jail guards, Prison Guard 1 Bernie Bayotas and Prison Guard 1 Joel Teves, who were tasked to bring Perigrno to his drug case hearing, were just ‘collateral damage’.

SPO1 Winston Ybañez, investigator of the case, said that based on the statement of their witness, two men on board a motorcycle blocked the service vehicle of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).

The back rider got off and shot the two jail officers in the front seat while another motorcycle which was tailing the vehicle stopped and the back rider shot Perigrino.

Today, the police will file a case against the four but the alleged mastermind will not be among the respondents for lack of evidence. (FREEMAN)
