357 Naga landslide victims given jobs
CEBU, Philippines — At least 357 landslide victims in the City of Naga, Cebu were given jobs by the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7).
The beneficiaries, mostly from Barangays Tinaan and Naalad, are under DOLE's Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).
Under the DILEEP, the labor department provides funds to local government units for the hiring of displaced workers to clean and repair waterways, roads, and other government infrastructure.
The landslide victims started working at the city’s nine evacuation centers— Naga Central Elementary School, Enan Chiong Activity Center, Naalad Elementary School, APO Cemex Covered Court, Naga National High School, Colon Elementary School, Cepoc Elementary School, San Fernando Covered Court and Langtad Elementary School—on October 8.
Each would be paid P386 daily for one month of service.
They were profiled by DOLE and the city’s Public Employment Service Office, said DOLE-7 Regional Director Johnson Cañete, in a statement.
DOLE-Cebu Provincial Field Office head Maria Grace Diaz said the workers’ salary will soon be distributed.
She said the workers should present their daily attendance sheets as bases of their salaries.
“We are contemplating on holding the pay-out or distribution of salaries very soon at the City Hall of the City of Naga,” she said. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
