CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has collected P66 million in various fees, fines and penalties from January to August this year.

Bulk of the collection came from the pay parking fee with P23.3 million, administrative fee with P13 million, clamping fee with P11 million, and impounding fee with P3 million.

Other fees and fines collected by CCTO were trisikad fee (P920,500), towing fee (P823, 200), and testing fee (P589,600), among others.

“Maka-ingon gyud ta daghan gihapon badlungon kay kani nga fines and penalties pinaagi man ni sa ilahang pagmulta ug sa pagsilot sa ilaha kay nakita man nato nga ubay-ubay gihapon ang mga badlungon sa kadalanan so last year ug same thing karon mas nidaghan gihapon karon nga tuiga,” CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano said.

CCTO has a target collection of P100 million this year.

Last year, CCTO collected P83.2 million in fines and other fees from over 3,600 violators.

Ouano said the most common violation is the illegal parking along sidewalks and streets.

He said his office is strictly enforcing Clamping Ordinance No. 1664 or An Ordinance amending City Ordinance No. 1642 authorizing the Traffic Enforcers of Cebu City.”

He said the owners of the clamped and towed vehicles are required to pay P1,500 for the clamping fee and for illegally parking along the street.

“Especially kanang ipangbilin lang nila ang ilang mga sakyanan sa kadalanan human walay mga driver kay isa gyud na siya sa maka-cause ug maka-contribute sa atong traffic siguro sa unang panahon naanad sila but this time ato gyud ni silang gi-istrikto pinaagi sa clamp,” he said.

He said an average of 100 vehicles are clamped everyday.

Ouano said most of the violations occurred on Colon Street, the country’s oldest national road and one of the busiest streets of Cebu City, at daytime.

At nighttime, on the other hand, road and traffic violations are common near hospitals, he said. (FREEMAN)
