Slain PDEA agent a good son, father

CEBU, Philippines — He was kind, obedient and responsible son and father.

This was how the family of slain Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Von Rian Tecson described him.

Luzviminda Tecson, together with husband Benedicto, and two other relatives went to the office of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) – 7 yesterday to seek help in the investigation of the ambush that killed her son.

Tecson, 41, was on his way home from a court hearing on board in his black Ford Ranger together with driver, Arnulfo Bauyaban, 52, when they were ambushed by unidentified assailants several meters away from his home in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City early afternoon of Wednesday.

Luzviminda said that the whole family is shocked and could not believe what happened.

 “Buotan man na ang akong anak tawon kalooy sa Ginoo. Secretive na siya pero buotan na akong anak. Wala gyud tawon na siya’y problema,” she said.

Tecson was the second child of Luzviminda and Benedicto. One of his siblings is a Senior Police Officer 3 assigned in Carcar City and the other is a nurse now living in Canada.

He was a BS Customs Administration graduate before he pursued Law studies at the University of the Visayas were he was a scholar. He has a 7-year-old son.

Tecson was a former Sanguniang Kabataan chairman of Barangay Napo, Carcar City.

His best friend, Christopher Navares, 40, told reporters yesterday that Tecson, aside from being a respected person in their barangay, was also known for being humble.

 “Walay nailhan nga kaaway. Daghan siya og amigo. Respetado siya sa among lugar. Dili man siya ingon nga hambugero. Tapat lang gyud ni siya sa iyang trabaho,” said Navares.

Tecson has worked at Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) but decided to join PDEA in 2007.

Former PDEA-7 director Emerson Margate who is now the director of PDEA-6 or Western Visayas said that Tecson was one of his good agents.

“As my agent for nine months since na-appoint ako as director sa PDEA-7 ay masabi kong he is a very good worker. Kung ano ang iutos mo sa kanya ay na-accomplish niya. He can also lead his team well,” said Margate in a phone interview with The FREEMAN. — MBG (FREEMAN)
