Cebu celebrates 449th anniversary tomorrow

CEBU, Philippines —  The entire Cebu province will celebrate tomorrow the 449th founding anniversary and the Capitol has prepared a series of activities for the month-long celebration.

 

The agri-fishery fair, which kicked off last Monday, will be culminating today. The fair showcases local products.

This year, 47 local government units and 37 other exhibitors joined the fair.

Tomorrow, a "Fiesta sa Kabataan" will be held at the Capitol Grounds. It is an annual activity which features children and family games.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will spearhead the event. This will commence after the scheduled 10 a.m. Mass.

On August 10, a Family and Child Summit will be conducted. One of the highlights of this activity is the discussion of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) standards.

An International Youth Day will also be celebrated by the Cebuano youth on August 12 and 13.

A farmer’s day celebration will take place on August 14 at the Capitol grounds and at the social hall.

Sports enthusiasts are also invited to witness a series of ball games.

The provincial government partners with Badian, Cebu to host the anniversary futsal and football tournament.

The night of August 15 is set to celebrate the continuing relationship between the government and the media, which is considered as the fourth estate.

The awarding for the Governor's Cup will be on August 24.

On the following day, a local job fair will commence which offers opportunities in and out of the country.

The fifth run of the Emergency Responders' Congress is slated on August 29-31.

This is to further boost the disaster resilience efforts of the Cebu Province.

To culminate the month-long celebration, the first Renaissance Cebuana will be crowned on August 31.

From over 700 ladies from across the island, 15 became this year's finalists. Each will be judged in terms of their capabilities in athletics, academics, and art.

The winner will serve as the ambassador of the Provincial Women's Commission (PWC).

Meanwhile, Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III said that he will not be delivering a State of the Provincial Address (SOPA) this month as it is not compulsory. — GAN (FREEMAN)
