Three arrested for drugs

CEBU, Philippines — Police arrested three men for having drugs during recent operations in different parts of the province.

The first was a 23-year-old motorist flagged down by operatives of the Danao City Police for violating traffic rules and later arrested after he was allegedly found with marijuana last Wednesday afternoon along the national highway in Barangay Tuburan Sur, Danao City.

Superintendent Jaime Quiocho Jr., chief of Danao City Police, that while his personnel were enforcing traffic regulations in the area, they saw Jemboy Lavaor, a resident of Barangay Togonon, Danao City, driving a motorcycle without his helmet on.

The police immediately flagged him down and asked for his documents.

Quiocho said that while in the process of investigating the suspect, the operatives found he had 67 marijuana stalks. It was later estimated at worth more than P8,000.

Lavaor is now temporarily detained at the Danao City Police Station while the police are now conducting a follow-up investigation to identify his source as well as his customers.

In Talisay City, a man was arrested by the police after he was caught with suspected shabu also last Wednesday afternoon in Barangay Tangke, Talisay City.

Joel Maglangit, 29, resident of the same barangay yielded 19 small packs of suspected shabu which was valued at P44,500. He is now detained in the Talisay police lock-up cell.

Meanwhile, a former court employee will have his own day in court for allegedly selling dangerous drugs.

Police Officer 1 Charben Sapio of San Fernando Police Station said Clint Baricuatro was arrested last June 3, 2018, around 9 p.m. in barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando town, during a buy-bust operation.

A poseur-buyer bought shabu worth P200 from Baricuatro who was arrested after he handed over the drugs. After he was frisked police found three more heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets.

During the inquest proceeding, Baricuatro choose not to undergo preliminary investigation to answer the allegations filed against him and instead manifested to face the charges in court.

Prosecutor Petronio Elesterio set Baricuatro’s bail for possession of illegal drugs at P200,000 but recommended no bail for selling dangerous drugs.

Baricuatro was now detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, according to Sapio. All suspects are set to be charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. — BRP (FREEMAN)
