CPPO lauded for anti-illegal drugs campaign

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) was recognized by the Battle Against Drugs for its exemplary efforts and support in the war against illegal drugs.

BAD founder and chairman Dr. Danny Bornales said the CPPO under the leadership of Senior Superintendent  Manuel Abrugena has been very supportive in its advocacy. Bornales said the provincial police office has consistently partnered with them through series of drug buy-bust operations resulting in the arrest of suspected drug personalities. He said that the partnership between CPPO and BAD started since 2016.

Abrugena said he was grateful for the recognition given to them by BAD. He said it is good to know that there are still people who believe in the capability of the PNP to fight against illegal drugs.

"Una very grateful kay Pastor Bornales at sa organization sa pagbigay ng recognition sa ating paglaban sa drugs. Isa din itong paraan na makapagbigay ng inspiration sa ating mga kapulisan to work harder at masugpo ng tuluyan ang illegal na druga. Mas ma-motivate pa  ang ating kapulisan lalo," Abrugena said.

"Napakagandang programa na sa kabilang kaliwat-kanan na pagbabatikos sa ibang grupo sa ating kapulisan sa ating war on drugs ay we are happy na may mga tao na all-out pa din ang suporta sa atin pong laban against illegal drugs," he added.

Abrugena assured the public that the police are winning the war against illegal drugs. In fact, he claimed to have already reduced the drug supply in the market.

BAD was founded by Bornales on June 4, 2007. The organization has been helping the PNP through conducting drug symposium or educating the youth about the effects of illegal drugs not only to them but also to the whole community.

"Kasi ang problema nila ngayon ay kulang sila (PNP) ng tao that's why more on Tokhang sila para supply reduction, pero kahit marami ang nadadakip at minsan ay may napapatay na drug pushers ay nandoon pa din. Kaya ang ginawa natin ay demand reduction through drug symposium na sinuportahan din ng PNP," said Bornales.

Aside from CPPO, BAD also recognized the Alegria Police Station headed by Senior Inspector Efren Diaz and Cordova Police Station led by Senior Inspector Janus Giangan.

Bornales said both the Alegria and Cordova Police Stations were very active in supporting the advocacy of BAD. CPPO deputy director for administration Superintendent Anthony Bagarinao; CPPO's Police Community Relations chief Superintendent Virgilio Bayon-on; and Mactan Police Station deputy chief Inspector Ricky Calong were also among the individual awardees.
