CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-7 has launched major programs and projects for Tañon Strait, the largest protected seascape in the Philippines, in coordination with the Local Government Units (LGUs).

Protected Area Superintendent Am Prospero Lendio stated that they have a lot of plans and projects for Tañon Strait but they are focused more on biophysical assessments, coastal land profiling, law enforcements and Communication Education and Public Awareness (CEPA).

“We will start next week in Badian. Actually nag-start na sila sa Bacolod and ang target namo ron is nine municipalities,” said Lendio.

He also said that last year they signed an agreement with Badian Mayor Carmencita Lumain giving the authority to the LGU to manage the Lambog Beach in Badian.

“In fact, we will be installing pathways separating the coastal areas and the private property para tanan naay access sa dagat. Kinsa tong gusto moadto sa dagat walay makaharang because of the installed pathways,” he said.

In line with its 20th anniversary on May 25, 2018, Tañon Strait Protected Seascape committees will hold different activities at the Grand Convention Center with Senator Cynthia Villar, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, as the guest of honor. — Cris Rheanne S.
