LTO-VII warns public: Don’t deal with fixers

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas has warned the public not to deal with fixers after uncovering several fake licenses.

LTO-7 Director Victor Caindec issued the warning after at least 10 driver's license applicants were allegedly asked to pay P6,000 each.

"Ang atong bayranan sa driver's license kay P800 plus ra na unya gikinahanglan gyud nga naay personal appearance kay kuhaan man mo ana og pictures unya i-cross check ang inyong thumb mark. So, kanang ingon nga no need mo moadto sa licensing center, signal na nga fake na," said Caindec.

Caindec said the 10 victims were from Liloan. He said the victims claimed that a neighbor offered to facilitate the transaction and promised them to expedite the processing at the LTO-7. The LTO official said that non-appearance is not allowed for driver’s license applicant.

"Kay daghan pa man gyud ta og backlogs sa atong driver's license issuance mao na nga taas gyud ang linya. We are asking the public for patience. At most tingali paabot mga six hours pero five-years validity man pud ni atong driver's license karon," Caindec said.

He said they are now working to stop the proliferation of fake license and the prosecution of those behind the illegal activities.

LTO-7 is encouraging the public to transact directly with its offices and avoid fixers in order to ensure that their license is genuine. Caindec added that he will give a P50,000 reward to anyone who will execute an affidavit against any LTO-7 personnel involved in the illegal activity.

"Mohatag ko og P50,000 reward kung kinsa to ang first person nga maka execute og affidavit nga maka pinpoint gyud nga naay taga LTO-7 nga maoy naay connection sa mga fixers, aron makasohan dayon na og naa man gani," Caindec said. (FREEMAN)
