Tanods’ honoraria now easier to get
CEBU, Philippines — Barangay tanods in Cebu City will no longer have to endure long queues for several hours just to claim their monthly honorarium of P4,000 at the City Hall.
This as the city government through its Office for Substance Abuse Prevention distributed Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) cash cards to at least 577 barangay tanods yesterday.
DBP prepaid card allows owners to withdraw their funds or honoraria through DBP and other banks' automated teller machines.
COSAP chief Garry Lao the initiative was aimed at providing convenient and secured transactions.
“It’s now hassle-free,” he said.
Lao said the 577 tanods from 32 different barangays were the first recipients of the cash cards.
The villages include Bonbon, San Antonio, Guadalupe, Luz, Sudlon II, Labangon, Binaliw, Hipodromo, Cambinocot, Paril, Cogon Ramos, Bulacao, Kamagayan, Punta Princesa, Banilad, Pit-os, Apas, Buot, Sudlon I, Pahina San Nicolas, Tejero, Tabunan, Sinsin, Babag, Sawang Calero, Pung-ol Sibugay, Budlaan, Pulangbato, Quiot, Talamban, Adlaon, and Sta. Cruz.
The cash cards of the remaining 48 barangays, on the other hand, are set to be released in the first week of April this year.
Cebu City has 80 barangays.
Moreover, Lao said half of the barangays have already submitted their requirements necessary for processing their honoraria for the months of January and February.
COSAP was tasked to process the payrolls of barangay tanods in a bid to avoid delays since January this year.
Tanods are required to submit their daily time records (DTRs), individual accomplishment report, authority to serve signed by the mayor, and consolidated report written by the barangay’s tanod chief.
In a separate development, at least 272 tanods from Barangay Guadalupe underwent a surprise drug test facilitated by COSAP yesterday.
The drug test results are expected to be released today.
Those found positive for illegal drug use will be automatically terminated from service.
From January to March this year, COSAP had tested positive for illegal drugs at least three barangay tanods from Kasambagan and Day-as, but results are still subject for confirmatory tests in Manila. —KBQ (FREEMAN)
