CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City’s civilian security volunteers, who are tasked to handle peace and order concerns, have received reflectorized vests.

At least 200 vests were donated to the city government by the Grab Philippines, a ride-hailing platform.

The city has at least 182 security volunteers who are members of the Barangay Intelligence Network, an anti-crime group created to improve and maintain the city’s peace and order.

Leo Gonzales, Grab PH spokesperson and public affairs head, said the company wants to contribute something beneficial to the city.

“So it’s really important for us to really help the local government, particularly Cebu City with its needs. In terms of security and in transport, we want to become part and parcel of the city’s growth,” he said.

In Cebu, the city’s volunteers were the first batch of recipients of the vests.

“Cebu City is very important to us, very important market, and very important city. Our partnership with Cebu is very strong so you can expect (more aid),” Gonzales said.

City Administrator Nigel Paul Villarete welcomed the help from Grab.

“I think we have to welcome this opportunity and we have to welcome all the support of the private sector doing to us. It really matters when the general public and private sector is also helping out in trying to solve our problems in our city,” he said. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
