Mandal was relieved from his post earlier this week after one of his men, PO1 Jayrome Solano, was arrested Saturday in Barangay Kasambagan for selling drugs. File

CEBU, Philippines — Former Carbon Police Station chief, Jacinto Mandal, may be dismissed from service if proven that he condoned the illegal activities of his subordinate who was arrested during a buy-bust operation last week.

Superintendent Ryan Devaras, chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch of Cebu City Police Office, said the highest penalty against Mandal could be dismissal.

Mandal was relieved from his post earlier this week after one of his men, PO1 Jayrome Solano, was arrested Saturday in Barangay Kasambagan for selling drugs.

"Depende na na kay we will elevate the case to the higher headquarters. Depende kung unsa nga kaso ang appropriate niya. Kung within the sakop lang sa jurisdiction ni City Director, he can be suspended. If not, he can be dismissed pero sa taas na to sa regional level," said Devaras, who is conducting the investigation against Mandal.

Solano was arrested together with his live-in partner, Maria Ester Reponte, 23. Police operatives from Mabolo caught them having drug session and in possession of illegal drugs worth P81, 420. Police Regional Office-7 director Chief Superintendent Robert Quenery immediately ordered the relief of Solano’s superior officer.

Mandal, who is now assigned at the City Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (CPHAU), said his relief is part of the hazards of the job.

“That is what we are trying to determine if Major Mandal knows the activity of this guy. Kung unsa ang iyang measures gihimo kung nakahibaw ba siya, kung iya ba ning gi-report, or iya ba ning gisultian nga police officer kay that is part of our responsibility as the commander," said Devaras.

Mandal denied that he has knowledge of the illegal drug activities of Solano. He also denied bringing  Solano with him when he was transferred from Mabolo to Carbon Police Station.

"We all know nga ang PNP is very strict regarding sa internal cleansing and here we are nana pud tay nadakpan nga police officer nga involved sa drugs. Kusog ang atong anti-drug operation, kusog sad ang atong internal cleansing, naa pa gihapoy police nga na involved ani," Devaras added. (FREEMAN)
