Capitol inaugurates projects in Dumanjug

CEBU, Philippines – Two barangay roads, one multipurpose gym and a spillway were inaugurated by the Cebu provincial government and local government officials of Dumanjug town yesterday.

The inauguration of the projects funded by the Capitol was headed by Governor Hilario Davide III, 7th district Representative Peter John Calderon and the district's Provincial Board members, Christopher "Dong" Baricuatro and Jerome Librando.

First inaugurated was the P2.9 million worth spillway in Barangay Kabalaasnan. The spillway is 40 meters long and five meters wide and was constructed to help residents of the barangay pass through, particularly when the river overflows.

Another project inaugurated was the multipurpose gym in Barangay Bullugan, which costs P1.9 million.

Governor Davide said the gym can be used by the residents as an evacuation center, in case there's a calamity and also a venue for school or barangay activities.

Davide also urges barangay officials to submit a resolution if they have a project in mind that they want to ask from the Capitol so that the provincial government can provide funding for it.

Bullugan Barangay Captain Gregorio Demol said they will be requesting for a road concreting project from the Capitol since residents have a hard time transporting from their barangay to Dumanjug proper because of unpaved roads.

In Barangay Calaboon, a P2 million worth barangay road was also inaugurated yesterday.

Barangay Captain Gerardo Irag thanked the provincial government for the project, which he said will be a big help to the students since the road leads to the newly-constructed elementary school in Calaboon.

He said students of Calaboon Elementary School have been having a time going to their new school because of rocky and muddy pathways. "Looy kaayo ang mga bata, mahugawan ang ilang sinina tungod sa lapok," Irag said.

Irag added there's also an allocated budget this year worth P2 million for the construction of their new multipurpose gym.

Another road was also inaugurated in Barangay Panlaan yesterday worth P3 million. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
