CCTO’s Tumulak, 29 traffic enforcers out

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Jonathan "Joy" Tumulak will no longer be the operations chief of the Cebu City Transportation Office, at least when Mayor Tomas Osmeña assumes office midday today.

"Gianugonan gyud ko kay trabaho ra man gud unta ang ako. Mi-eskwela man gani ko og traffic management sa University of the Philippines aron gyud nga ma-epektibo ko sa akong trabaho," Tumulak told The Freeman.

Tumulak will be replaced by Eulyses Empic who worked at the operations division of the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) during Osmeña's first term as mayor.

It was outgoing mayor Michael Rama who appointed Tumulak to head CCTO but Tumulak said earlier he was willing to work under Osmeña because he was not involved in partisan politics.

Tumulak isn't the only casualty at the CCTO.

Osmeña will not renew the contracts of 29 traffic enforcers reportedly because they engaged in partisan politics in the recent elections, particularly during the campaign period, said CCTO chief Rafael Christopher Yap.

Meanwhile, Osmeña is planning to appoint Francisco "Bimbo" Fernandez as city administrator and Nagiel Bañacia as public information officer on top of other positions, including protocol officer and head of the Local Disaster Risk-Reduction Management Office.

City administrator and public information officer were two of the last posts Fernandez and Banacia held during Osmeña's last term six years ago. (FREEMAN)
